Google Chrome Extensions

Google Chrome is an excellent web browser; it’s very fast, it’s very simple and it is very good at complying to today’s web standards. The main factor stopping it really taking off is no extension support in the current release. I downloaded a development version of Google Chrome to try out some early extensions and have a go at creating my own.

At the moment Chrome is very short on extensions, there are a few good ones like adblock and xmarks, however it is very lacking in some categories such as web developer extensions.

I took a look at what is involved in creating extensions and was amazed at the simplicity. It uses a mixture of html/css/javascript technology, which is what a lot of web developers like me are very familiar with. This also makes extension development for Google Chrome easy and I managed to have a ‘Hello World’ extension in a couple of minutes.

We will have to wait a while for the final release version of Google Chrome with extensions but it will definitely have an impact on the browser market.

    Hi there,

I love your Google Tasks Chrome extension. I wanted to let you know that I added an option for using a Google Apps domain. Email me back if you’d like a patch.

    Thanks for the great extension!
